Drones Illuminate Independence Grand Gala at National Stadium

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Last night, the evening sky was lit up by a spectacular display of one thousand drones at the Independence Grand Gala, held at the National Stadium. This impressive number marked a significant increase from the 300 drones showcased at last year’s event.

The announcement had been made by Lenford Salmon, executive director of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), at a recent Independence Celebrations Committee meeting. Salmon noted that the drone display highlighted Jamaica’s rich culture, music, and the achievements of its athletes, especially in light of their participation in the upcoming Olympics in France.

The gala, which began at 5:30 pm, culminated activities celebrating Jamaica’s 62nd anniversary under the theme ‘Jamaica 62… One Love to the World’. The evening’s formalities included the inspection of the guard of honour and a flag-raising ceremony.

A key highlight of the event was an all-female drill performance by the Jamaica Constabulary Force, celebrating the significant milestones of women in the organization. This year marks the 75th anniversary of women being able to serve in the force.

The annual event, which was free to the public, was also broadcast live on television and streamed on various social media platforms, ensuring that all Jamaicans could partake in the festivities.
