The St. James Police have charged Zania Burke, a 30-year-old shopkeeper also known as ‘Fourteen’, following an incident on July 27 in St. John’s Square, Retirement. Burke faces multiple charges including possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a firearm with intent to injure, assault at common law, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and common assault.
The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. when Burke allegedly attacked a woman with whom he had an ongoing dispute. Reports indicate that Burke pulled out a handgun, pointed it at the woman, and struck her several times with the weapon. The woman managed to escape and later reported the incident to the police.
Burke has been taken into custody and is expected to face the charges in court. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
