50 Cent Wins $1 Billion Lawsuit Over “Power” Allegations

50 Cent emerged victorious in a $1 billion lawsuit filed by Cory “Ghost” Holland Sr., who accused the rapper and “Power” co-creator of stealing his life story for the hit show’s plot. The lawsuit, filed in 2021, claimed that 50 Cent, along with co-creator Courtney Kemp, STARZ, and Lionsgate, based more than 200 scenes of “Power” on Holland’s life.

Holland argued that he met Kemp’s father in the early 1990s to discuss his life story as he was attempting to exit the drug trade. He further claimed that in 2007, he sent a CD containing an autobiographical song that mirrored the plot of “Power,” and that 50 Cent eventually received this CD and used it as inspiration for the show.

However, Judge Analisa Torres ruled in favor of 50 Cent, stating that the show did not directly reference Holland. In response to the lawsuit’s dismissal, 50 Cent took to Instagram to mock the situation, posting a screenshot of the news and a humorous caption: “Fool thought he was Ghost da fvck wrong wit these n*gg@’s man LOL.”

Holland maintained that his lawsuit was not a frivolous attempt to capitalize on someone else’s success but a legitimate claim of intellectual property theft. He emphasized the significant impact this alleged theft had on his life and the profits made by the defendants from his story.

50 Cent’s lawyer, Joanna Hill, argued that Holland’s complaint failed to identify any defamatory statements or direct references to him within the fictional series. This ruling marks another legal victory for 50 Cent, who continues to maintain his position as a significant figure in the entertainment industry.
